Laura Caparrotti

Laura Caparrotti has a master’s degree in Performing Arts from the University “La Sapienza” in Rome and trained with Dario Fo. After ten years of professional theatre in Italy, she relocated to New York, where she collaborated with The Kitchen, The Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, the cell, the Cherry Lane Theatre, the Tank among others. Some of her recent projects include The Worth of Women based on Moderata Fonte’s book (commissioned by Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo’), The most learned woman (commissioned by Vassar College), Enrico IV, a monologue (commissioned by the Embassy of Italy). She is the artist in residence at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo’ (2012-present) and at Vassar College (2017 and 2018) and at Watermill.

She is the Founding Artistic Director of Kairos Italy Theater, the Italian Theater Company in NY, and of In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY, a Festival created in 2013 to travel in all 5 NYC boroughs and beyond. She is member of the Director’s Lab at Lincoln Center, of SDC, the League of Professional Theater Women, co-founder of the World Wide Lab and of OnStage! Festival. Laura is the recipient of the Dante Award 2016 from the Association of Teachers of Italian and in 2021 of the DC Italian Cultural Society for her work and dedication in spreading the Italian culture in the States. In 2021 Laura completed her first documentary as a director Tutti In Scena on the history of Italian theater in NY. The documentary was one of the three finalists at The Russo Brothers Film Forum, and since then has won several prizes including Best Director at the Sidney World Fest.
